I saw this photo at The Getty when I was visiting with my daughter this week. It blew both of our minds. I’ve never heard of Daniel Gordon before but then I’m not super in tune with the photography world.
His technique here is to print out images he finds on the internet and shape them into 3d objects of what they are and then photograph them. The fact that he set these clementines up as a still life is so meta that it’s hard to wrap my head around it. So smart and creative. I take it to be a statement on what is real in the digital age. And by setting it up as a still life ads even more layers of meaning that I could think about forever.
