Studio Drift has created a real-life reproduction of a swarm of starlings(called a murmer) but with lighted drones. This has everything I like – autonomous drones, random patterns, and a creative use of new technology. I don’t think this is a stretch to call it design. It’s top notch creative thinking and execution reflecting one of the natural worlds coolest kinetic designs. It’s important to look to nature for inspiration and when you can combine the natural with the technological, magic happens.

After a little more digging, I see that Studio Drift does a lot more of this type of work. They have a show called Coded Nature, which I’d love to see.
